Operation SOS Ride Sat. August 16, 2008

Blue skies and cool temperatures greeted the riders as they rolled in to SV H-D to sign in for the ride. The DOJMC members were the first to arrive setting up and greeting each other and having their morning, get started, cups of coffee. Soon after the PA National Guard Mobile Recruiting Office arrived to provide the backdrop for registration and providing power for our PA system.

At about 9:45 the riders were greeted and a safety briefing was given followed by a prayer for safe travel. Then the riders took to their bikes.

Promptly at 10 the 100+ riders pulled out aided by the Lower Paxton PD. The scenic ride took the group through Clarks Valley with a stop just outside Tower City. After the brief rest stop, the group proceeded through the mountains, valleys and small towns of Dauphin, Schuylkill and Northern Lebanon counties aided by the Pine Grove PD and the Jonestown Barracks of the Pa State Police.

The ride climaxed with a pass through Fort Indiantown Gap Military Reservation ending at Memorial Lake State Park. At the lake food and soft drinks were provided and two Sergeant Majors from Fort Indian town Gap made remarks to the group expressing their appreciation for their generosity and telling them how much it means to the troops that people will put in the time and effort in support of what they do.

The ride was a rousing success and over $2000 was raised to send needed/wanted items to our troops.

Thank you to all who participated and to those who worked organizing the various aspects of the ride. Special thanks to Jo Campbell and her assistant Faith at Susquehanna Valley Harley-Davidson for all their help. Thanks also to Rick Armerman (rear Escort), The PA National Guard, Stroehman Bread, Sam's Club, Herrs has Heart Foundation, and the various members of the PADOJMC who contributed both with their time and money.
